Citizen activists asked the Municipal Presidents of Benito Juárez and Solidaridad to join their counterpart from Isla Mujeres to take away the potable water concession from the Aguakan company; They will also seek advice, so a compensation is not paid to this company, which has failed the people of Quintana Roo.
One of the main precursors of the “anti Aguakan” movement is the lawyer Gerardo Solís, who stressed that for the moment, the only one who initiated a legal process against the hydraulic company is the Councilor of Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez Ricalde, for what she did an exhortation so that Ana Patricia Peralta and Lili Campos also instruct their Cabildos to end the concession of this company.
“I want to tell Ana Paty and Lili to do what their people ask from them and that is to remove Aguakan. This company is inhumane and has failed the people of Quintana Roo. You have to see what they are doing on the island and start the legal path against the concessionaire, which does not even show its face, ”said the lawyer.
It must be remembered that, in recent days, the Isla Mujeres Cabildo announced that it will initiate legal actions in favor of the islanders, who are being affected by the poor service offered by the company Desarrollos Hidráulicos de Cancún S.A de C.V. (Aguakan); For this reason, during the session held last Thursday night, it was approved to resume the contentious-administrative lawsuit against the company. By majority vote, the Municipal Trustee, José López García, was authorized to resume the contentious-administrative trial with number 215/219-1 in the fourth chamber of the Court of Administrative Justice of the state of Quintana Roo.
On June 5, 2022, more than 5,800 islanders refused to continue with Aguakan services; while in Benito Juárez there were more than 70,000 votes against this company that, before the symbolic closure of its offices, replied via its social networks that the attacks against it were a “political beating.”
“Once again, some protagonists seek to obtain their political-electoral image by using the concessionaire as a tool to climb positions, disqualifying the work of the company and making false statements in order to gain supporters that lead them to occupy a position of popular election. In this sense, and taking into account the right to freedom of expression, in Aguakan we remain respectful of the manifestation of ideas, as established in Article 6 of the Constitution; trusting in the principles of transparency, timely, objective and truthful information”, reads the statement that the company posted on its Twitter account, without any of its managers or spokespersons issuing any statement in this regard.
