The scam victim received support from the authorities, resulting in the refund of their money.
A viral video on social media shows how a Canadian tourist was the target of a scam attempt by a taxi driver at the Cancun International Airport. The taxi driver charged a thousand dollars for a trip from terminal 3 to terminal 4.
Following the tourist’s complaint on social media, the Secretary of Government of Quintana Roo, Cristina Torres, became aware of the incident on April 8th. The victim received support from the National Guard and the Secretary of Citizen Security, which led to the refund of the money charged by the taxi driver.
An investigation is underway in collaboration with federal authorities to implement measures that penalize such behavior, with the aim of improving the experience of visitors and security at the Cancun International Airport.
“We are coordinating efforts with ASUR and other tourism sectors to ensure the safety and mobility of users,” they indicate.
The legal status of the taxi driver and whether he continues to work at the airport has not been confirmed, but it has been observed that he was detained by the authorities.
