Mistreatment of Colombian tourists in Mexico: these are the embassy’s contact lines to ask for help

The Colombian diplomatic mission in that country has set up mechanisms to report any irregularities in your trip. What you need to know, here.

After Colombian actress Constanza ‘Cony’ Camelo denounced on social media how about twenty travelers who left Colombia bound for Mexico were victims of mistreatment, to the point that immigration authorities detained them and denied them entry into Mexican territory without explanation, Colombian authorities took action to ensure the safety and well-being of their nationals abroad.

In a video shared on her social networks on March 30, 2024, the actress reported that “on the flight arriving from Mexico I find this situation, many compatriots were returned without any reason, they were detained, their passports were taken away, they were returned, their shoelaces were taken away, they were incommunicado.”

One of the affected, Harold Sánchez, confirmed that despite having met all the requirements to enter Mexico, they were detained without any justification.

“I had bought the whole tour to spend six nights and seven days. We presented all the legal documents, but they clung to anything and put us in a room. As if we were criminals. They took us out in a line. It’s a terrible indignation. We are working people, we had a work permit to be on that tour. The dissatisfaction we have is terrible,” said the compatriot.

Due to the situation, which generated outrage on social networks because, in addition, according to Camelo’s complaint, Avianca, the airline they were traveling on, took away the travelers’ passports and cell phones “so they couldn’t record,” the Embassy of Colombia in Mexico reminded nationals of the contact lines dedicated to providing immediate assistance to Colombians who find themselves in vulnerable situations.
