In his first act as head of the Revolutionary Confederation of Workers and Peasants (CROC) in Benito Juárez, Cancún, the secretary of the National Executive Committee (CEN), Isaías González Cuevas, called for a strike at the Parnassus Hotel on August 18, following constant violations of workers’ rights and benefits.
The national leader, in a statement, called on employers to engage in dialogue to protect employees’ rights and interests and seek wage improvements, fair working conditions, and access to social security.
He added that the hotel, which claims financial difficulties, is experiencing salary delays, has committed unjustified dismissals of unionized staff, failed to pay employer-employee dues to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and Infonavit, and attempted to bring people from another union into the hotel to generate further labor and social conflict.
González Cuevas indicated that they requested the intervention of federal and state authorities, including Secretary of Government Cristina Torres, the Secretary of Labor, Mayor Ana Paty Peralta, representatives of hoteliers, business owners, and unions, to generate a dialogue that will allow for a conciliation agreement and, thereby, restore social balance and labor peace at the workplace.
He emphasized that the CROC prioritizes dialogue and respect for labor rights, and expressed confidence that, through legality, a satisfactory agreement will be reached between the parties, ensuring both the well-being of its workers and the continued operations of the hotel.
The CROC is a catalyst for positive change, promoting innovation and collaboration between the parties. “We seek solutions, not problems, and we always promote a healthy, positive work environment where every employee is respected and valued.”
It’s worth remembering that last Tuesday, Mario Machuca Sánchez, the then leader of the CROC in Benito Juárez, Cancún, was executed inside his private vehicle while it was parked at a new car dealership.
Following the union leader’s death, it was reported that the CROC National Executive Committee (CEN), chaired by Isaias González Cuevas, will assume control of the union in Cancún, pending elections to renew the local leadership.
