This Monday afternoon, Mario Machuca Sánchez, leader of the Revolutionary Confederation of Workers and Peasants (CROC) in Cancún, was shot to death.

The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m., when emergency services were informed that gunshots were heard at the intersection of Kabah and Chichén Itzá avenues in downtown Cancún. According to witnesses, individuals dressed as Uber Eats delivery drivers intercepted and shot the driver of a black luxury SUV.

The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office reported that it has opened an investigation into whoever is responsible for the crime of aggravated homicide, “following the events in which a man, identified as Mario “N,” lost his life aboard a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe on the streets of the municipality of Benito Juárez.”

According to preliminary investigations, the attackers, who were traveling on a motorcycle, one of whom was carrying a backpack of fast food, fired at the vehicle as it was leaving a parking lot in Superblock 42.

It is also specified that the motorcycle used in this incident has already been located, as well as the delivery backpack carried by one of the perpetrators.

As part of the initial investigation, a possible motive related to work-related activities is being investigated, although other hypotheses have not been ruled out.

“The State Attorney General’s Office continues the corresponding investigations and maintains technological, intelligence, and surveillance coordination through security cameras with authorities from all three levels of government, with the aim of clarifying the events and guaranteeing access to justice,” the State Attorney General’s Office report states.
