Although the digital platform Uber already had a definitive protection to offer the transport service at the Cancun International Airport, the mafias that operate in the air terminal, which even transport migrants, hinder its free activity, denounced the spokesperson, Águeda Esperrilla.
In an interview, the spokesperson denounced that the pirate transporters, especially those that operate in terminal 3, collude with members of the National Guard and of the Asur itself, to operate illegally, since they surely offer them rates that are not audited.
She said that the dispute over the fare at the airport is economic, since the pirate transporters charge a minimum of 150 dollars to take tourists out of the airport, but they also offer service to migrants, to whom they charge up to 15 thousand pesos.
She indicated that the National Guard has no role in monitoring transportation, however, its elements have stopped Uber drivers, taken their tickets and handed them over to pirates, in an obvious complicity.
She added that for about eight months they had already had the ruling in their favor to operate at the airport, so they tried to talk with the Asur authorities to coordinate, but given the refusal to serve them they ended up operating under the authorization that a federal judge had already granted them.
The spokesperson maintained that the service should be at the passenger’s choice, in which case Uber would have the possibility of offering an endless number of services because it is a global platform, with fair prices and fully accredited personnel.
