Fonatur blocks business in Cancun

It seems that the certainty that Claudia Sheinbaum offered to businessmen in her historic speech as president-elect, fell on deaf ears at Fonatur. And not everything has been in accordance with the law in the birth of the Trust for the Strengthening of Tourism Activity in the State of Quintana Roo (Foatqroo). Apparently, the entry into operation of the organization that will replace the historic Fonatur in the midst of the six-year transition, is facing a series of resistances, especially for those projects that provide high value and citizen security to tourists.

In light of the next government, Quintana Roo, along with the other states of the Yucatan Peninsula, play a fundamental role in the implementation of one of the flagship projects of this administration, and which will be enhanced in the next: the Mayan Train.

And it is no wonder. All projects that are related to one of the infrastructure jewels of Obradorism, have to be a priority.

Such is the case of Walkins Box Shops, which has a current contract with Fonatur to install 20 mobile modules throughout the hotel zone of Cancun, which will offer different digital services in kiosks to users, such as anti-fraud tourist information, and of course, the sale of tickets for the Mayan Train, thus fulfilling the objective of socializing the means of transport that has become so popular among the citizens of Mexico and the world. In addition to being the first urban project that was born with security precepts, with 80 cameras connected to the C5.

However, there are dark interests. In an official document dated July 17, 2024, signed by Raúl Zambrano, Marketing Director of Fonatur, he responds to the company’s express request regarding the legality of the contract and indicates the locations to be occupied, and specifies that the concession is unrelated to the Trust recently signed with SEFIPLAN Q. Roo.

Strangely, a couple of weeks later, in another letter dated August 6, the cancellation of the same was surprisingly notified, arguing that the areas where the 20 Walkins Box Shop modules would be installed had already been sold, being those that the same fund approved by letter.

In the background, there are other reasons to discard the project. It is prudent that the director of Fonatur, Lyndia Quiroz Zavala, is aware of this, and other cases that are occurring in the transition to Foatqroo, so that it does not become the “Year of Hidalgo”.

Is everything okay at Editorial Planeta?

The prestigious publishing house Grupo Planeta is in the eye of the storm after multiple complaints that have come to light on digital platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, specifically on the account @terroreditorialmx. The accusations cover a wide range of abusive behavior, including abuse of power, labor abuse and gender discrimination. At the center of these serious allegations is the publisher’s CEO, Gabriel Sandoval.

The stories that emerge paint a disturbing picture of a toxic work environment, where excessive work demands and coercive practices were commonplace. Employees were reportedly subjected to long work days without adequate compensation and under constant threat of retaliation if they did not meet unreasonable expectations.

The @terroreditorialmx account has been the epicenter of these revelations, offering a platform for current and former employees to share their experiences anonymously. Testimonies have multiplied rapidly, reaching 4,000 followers in one month, generating a growing clamor for justice and transparency. The magnitude of the allegations has captured the attention of the media and the general public, creating a wave of indignation that extends beyond Mexico’s borders. Answers are demanded.
