The issue of nighttime motorcycle rides in Playa del Carmen remains under review, with proposals focused on their regulation and the creation of suitable spaces to prevent disruptions to the public and avoid drastic measures, such as the operations involving the arrest of even minors, that have occurred in Cancún.
According to Samuel Gómez, a member of Amedecro and the Motociclistas Solidarios (Solidarity Motorcyclists) group, meetings have been held with municipal authorities, including council members from the Security Commission, to review possible modifications to the Traffic Regulations.
Among the proposed measures are stricter enforcement of regulations related to modified exhaust systems and noise levels, as well as the possibility of regulating motorcycles based on their engine displacement and the decibel levels they generate.
In parallel, the standardization of traffic regulations at the state level is being considered, which would also impact how these motorcycle gatherings are organized, especially on weekends.
The central issue, they pointed out, is finding a balance between the public’s right to rest and the need for recreational spaces for young people, who actively participate in these rides.
In this regard, one of the proposals is to designate specific areas, away from residential zones, where motorcyclists can gather without causing disturbances.
However, the process is currently stalled, as the dialogue sessions with the City Council’s General Secretariat have been temporarily suspended. It is hoped that these sessions will resume in order to continue the search for solutions.
The issue has gained prominence in the region, especially given stricter measures in neighboring municipalities, where operations have been implemented that have generated discontent among motorcyclists, reinforcing the need for agreements that allow for balanced coexistence.
