The Mexican regional music group Fuerza Regida has cancelled their concert in Cancún, Quintana Roo, after receiving threats through narcomantas.

The group, known for their “corridos tumbados” style, was allegedly threatened by the Sinaloa Cartel. This marks the second time the group has been threatened by a drug cartel.

The cancellation occurred shortly after narcomessages appeared in two different areas of the region. The messages, supposedly from the Sinaloa Cartel, warned Fuerza Regida that their scheduled concert on April 19, 2024, in Cancún would be their last performance.

The group did not provide further details about the cancellation, but they assured that ticket refunds would be processed starting from May 1. The threat comes almost a week after narcomantas appeared in the 102 and 228 regions of Benito Juárez municipality, both signed by the Sinaloa Cartel.

Despite the threat, Fuerza Regida has not officially canceled the concert, leaving it unclear whether the decision was influenced by authorities or the group itself. Interestingly, many of their popular narcocorridos reference the Sinaloa Cartel, leading some to question the authenticity of the threat.

For instance, in their 2022 song “Ch y la Pizza,” Fuerza Regida mentioned Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán and “La Chapiza,” a criminal group currently led by El Chapo’s descendants.

This incident is not the first time the group has faced threats. In October 2023, they were threatened by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) before a concert in Tijuana, Baja California. The message was similar to the one found in Cancún on April 12, 2024:
