The inauguration of the Nichupté Bridge in Cancún will take place this weekend, May 2nd and 3rd, 2026, with a family walk, a surprise concert, and a 10K race.

What activities will be held on the Saturday of the Nichupté Bridge inauguration?

The first day of celebrations will focus on social and family gatherings at the new infrastructure. According to the mayor of Benito Juárez, Ana Paty Peralta, the day will include a walk where participants can take part on foot or by bicycle.

After the walk, a musical event will be held; the lineup will be formally announced by the State Government. Those interested in attending must register beforehand on the official digital platforms of the state administration.

“It will be a social drone event, a walk on Saturday, which is the opening day, with many surprises, and a surprise concert. Our governor will be announcing all of this,”

detailed the mayor of Cancún.

The closing event will be a formal sporting competition that will allow participants to cross the Nichupté Bridge, considered the second largest in Latin America. According to official information, the event will have a limited capacity of 3,000 runners.

Technical details of the competition:

Start and finish line: Access via Bonampak Avenue.

Distances: 5 and 10-kilometer categories.

Schedule: Staggered starts beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Cost: Free registration with electronic timing chip.

Prizes and event logistics

The total prize purse amounts to 140,000 pesos in cash, distributed among the top three overall finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories. The first-place winner in each category will receive up to 20,000 pesos and a commemorative trophy.

To ensure the safety of attendees, the Benito Juárez City Council will deploy an information and assistance operation. This operation will involve more than 400 volunteers and staff from various municipal departments.

The first day of events will focus on opening the roadway to the public, allowing pedestrian and recreational access before it opens to vehicular traffic.

Family Walk: Attendees can explore the structure on foot or by bicycle.

Social Drone: An aerial photography activity will be held with attendees.

Surprise Concert: A musical event will close the day; the artists will be revealed by the State Government.

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, a formal athletic race will be held, marking the first sporting event on the bridge, considered the second longest in Latin America.

5K and 10K Race: Electronically timed race with chip distribution.

Meeting Point: The start and finish lines are located at the entrance to Bonampak Avenue.

Start Times: The 5K race starts at 6:00 PM and the 10K race at 6:15 PM.

Limited Capacity: Participation is restricted to a maximum of 3,000 registered runners.

Prizes: A total of 140,000 pesos in cash will be distributed among the winners of the men’s and women’s categories.
