Maya Train Workers Protest for Lack of Payment in Playa del Carmen

Collaborators and union representatives of subcontracted construction companies by Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA), concessionaire of the Felipe Ángeles airport works and sections of the Maya Train, demonstrated in Playa del Carmen due to the lack of payment for two years.

Salvador Garnica, a representative of transporters, indicated that after regular cash payments, the ICA company stopped providing the corresponding salaries to workers from at least three unions, with a sum that to this day amounts to more than 6 million pesos. For this reason, the corresponding commercial lawsuits have been filed.

He stated that although they seek legal resolutions, they prefer a conciliation to recover their corresponding salaries and thus avoid litigation that could take years given the legal power of the company and the little solvency of those affected. He also commented that the reasons for the lack of payment are unknown.
