The Cancun Post editor received a letter stating that an American citizen who goes by the name of James Harris, is probably the most dangerous real estate rental scammer in the state of Quintana Roo. Beware!
His name is James Harris, he lives in Playa del Carmen and has been scamming people with his fake rental listings for 3+ years. He has been arrested once so far for a rental scam but was released 4 days later after his lawyer paid off the judge.
He currently has numerous fake Facebook profiles under the names Joe Simpson, Jimmy Collins, Vincent Anello, Paul Miller, Rich Westerman, and many more. He posts fake rental listings with stolen photos of real properties and uses fake profile photos from iStock.
Harris gets away with his scams by telling his victims to send deposits to his “administrator” or “partner” and gives a Mexican name.
He has a bunch of different locals who pick up money for him from Elektra/Banco Azteca and Walmart (cash transfers via Remitly, Xoom, and other cash apps).
His fake profiles can be found all over Facebook and they all look alike.
As you can see, they all look very similar and he often uses the same photos.
Fun fact: before fleeing to Mexico, James Aubrey Harris, who is wanted in the US, worked as an “instructor” at Trump University. Go figure! You can’t make this stuff up!
