The resumption of flights between Brazil and Cancun is a fundamental step towards diversifying tourism, a benefit already being felt in the destination, highlighted Marcos Gutiérrez Martínez, president of Empresarios por Quintana Roo (Businessmen for Quintana Roo).
Since June 20th, this direct flight between Cancun and Brasilia has resumed, with three weekly frequencies and year-round operation. This is excellent news for the destination, as it brings back visitors who contribute to its diversification.
“Without a doubt, it is very important because one of the tourism sectors that is significantly reactivating in our destination is precisely Brazilian tourism, and facilitating connections with any country in the world certainly bodes well for Cancun,” he emphasized.
For local business owners, the return of this direct route represents not only an increase in the volume of people arriving at the airport, but also an opportunity to adjust hospitality strategies.
While the flow of tourists is positive, the sector must focus on strategies to maximize the economic impact of these new visitors, adapting to their specific consumption and spending profiles.
The business leader emphasized that air connectivity is an essential driver for visitor flow, especially in markets that have shown clear signs of reactivation after periods of absence from the destination. Another segment they are hoping will strengthen is the Colombian market, something that could happen with the upcoming change of government in the South American country.
The goal, he added, is to attract these new markets and facilitate their stay so that Brazilian tourism, which is becoming an interesting segment for the region, consolidates its presence and well-being in the Mexican Caribbean.
According to the Federal Tourism Secretariat, airlines such as Avianca and Copa Airlines are analyzing expanding their connectivity to the destination through routes with stopovers in Panama and Colombia, which would allow an increase in the flow of Brazilian visitors to the Mexican Caribbean, which last year totaled 85,000 visitors of that nationality and the goal is to double it this year, thanks to the electronic visa.
