According to the regional breakdown, traffic in Mexico showed a decrease of 8.1%, with a total of 2.7 million passengers. Domestic traffic decreased by 4.9%, while international traffic fell by 12.4%. Cancún, one of Asur’s key airports, registered a 12.5% drop in its total traffic, reaching 1.89 million passengers. However, destinations such as Mérida reported an increase of 9.6%, adding 293,515 passengers in September 2024.
At the airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, passenger traffic decreased by 0.8% compared to September 2023, registering 773,296 passengers. Domestically, traffic decreased by 3.9%, while international traffic increased by a remarkable 26.0%.
In contrast to the declines in Mexico and Puerto Rico, Colombia experienced a year-over-year growth of 14.7%, with 1.35 million passengers. International traffic in Colombia grew by 15.2%, while domestic traffic increased by 14.5%.
So far in 2024, Asur’s total passenger traffic accumulated a growth of 1.5%, reaching 53.5 million passengers. In Mexico, the accumulated annual figure showed a slight fall of 3.6%, while in Puerto Rico it increased by 8.3%. Meanwhile, Colombia reported an accumulated growth of 11.0%.
These results reflect a disparate performance in the different markets in which Asur operates, with a significant fall in key destinations such as Cancun and a solid recovery in international markets such as Colombia and Puerto Rico. (Air passenger demand grows 8.6% in August and load factor reaches historical maximum: IATA).
