Cancún is about to become a medical hub that will attract Mexican specialists currently residing in the United States. This is thanks to a project presented to the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, with an investment of up to $50 million.

The goal is to have a medical tourism center in Cancún, which would include the creation of a health university.

“They presented us with a health project to turn the city into a hub to serve, obviously, the people of Quintana Roo, but also our domestic tourists and people who live in the United States and have chosen Mexico, and specifically Quintana Roo, in the northern part of the state,” stated the governor.

These are specialists of Mexican origin who, for various reasons, moved to the United States but are interested in offering quality services from one of the most important tourist hubs and thereby reach visitors, as well as the Mexican population in general.

“I’m talking about heart specialists, neurologists, and trauma surgeons who, through this project, could come to provide consultations and perform operations. It’s a very important group of doctors, and I hope to advance this great project,” the president explained.

She added that the proposed health university aims to become a breeding ground for doctors, but also for nurses, based on the high demand among young people to study medicine in our country.

In addition, she said, there is also interest from American businesspeople to invest in the development of aerospace technology, derived from the air and rail connectivity offered by the Chetumal wellness hub.

“It’s a company that is very interested in coming because there are great attractions, and we can’t lose sight of the connectivity we have with the East Coast (of the United States),” the president added.

The governor led a meeting with more than 100 U.S. investors from various sectors, where she outlined the advantages of investing in Quintana Roo, given its economic, logistical, connectivity, infrastructure, competitiveness, and projected growth.

Among these advantages, the governor highlighted the Economic Development Hub for Well-being in Chetumal, designed to spur investments in manufacturing, energy, healthcare, agribusiness, real estate, transportation, telecommunications, hospitality, aerospace, technology, logistics, and international trade.
