Tulum, Q.R. — Police and National Defense Secretariat personnel responded to an Emergency 911 call Thursday after someone reported several bomb threats. Authorities rushed to the scene of a local business square where they proceeded to cordon off a large area along Tulum Avenue.
In this call it was assured that a bomb was in the DHL parcel agency, located on Avenida Tulum with Jupiter, the second as it was inside the sports bar La Chispa, located on Beta street. After a call, both businesses were immediately and preventively evicted by the authorities.
Police officers walked the area accompanied by a sniffer dog, while personnel from the National Defense Secretariat entered the business in search of the alleged box of explosives. It was around 2:00 p.m. when a specialized team arrived where, for more than three hours, authorities remained on site.
While officials did confirm the report of the threat Thursday afternoon, they did not confirm or deny finding a box of explosive material.
Tulum, among the most dangerous municipalities in Mexico
According to Tulum en Red, in 2019 Tulum was placed among the most dangerous municipalities in the country with 40 murders of organized crime. Only so far this 2020 there is already a figure of 17 fatalities.
On the morning of Thursday, February 27 at 11:20 a.m., two men were blasted with long weapons from an Explorer van manned by two men wearing jackets, hats and sunglasses.

In both cases, the municipal authorities say they have no evidence or opportunity to arrest any of those responsible.
The Tulum news outlet assures that in this municipality there is a war for the control of illicit activities due to alleged agreements that exist between the State Government, the Public Security Secretariat and the Tulum Municipal Presidency itself with different drug trafficking cartels to which Opportunity and protection are provided to operate with absolute freedom.
It also ensures that at any time of the day in the streets and beaches of Tulum you can see dealers operating inside tourist centers.
The news site assures that since the arrival of Carlos Joaquín González as governor of Quintana Roo, the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel, CJNG, has also arrived.

Today Tulum has a population of less than 33,000 inhabitants, however, there are 17 extrajudicial executions with impunity in just the first two months of the year, without a single detainee and with all the signs that the war for control and sale of drugs will increase.
