A violent robbery in the Bellavista neighborhood of Playa del Carmen resulted in the murder of a woman early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 7:37 a.m. on 13th Street South between 140th and 145th Avenues.
According to reports, the victim’s son received a call from his father, urging him to return home immediately. Upon arrival, he was informed that his mother had been stabbed. Relatives living on the same property but in different rooms heard struggles and screams, prompting them to call 911.
The perpetrator, whose identity remains unknown, was reportedly wearing a ski mask and fled westward. The victim, who had just finished showering and was preparing for work, encountered the intruder. She attempted to defend herself, but the assailant stabbed her three times in the chest, resulting in her death. The attacker then grabbed a cell phone and fled the scene.
Police cordoned off the area, and first responders confirmed that the woman had no vital signs. Forensic services arrived to handle the scene. The victim’s husband and son, devastated by the loss, cooperated with the investigative police to continue the legal process.
