The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Quintana Roo (FGE) confirmed the murder of Fermín Cortés, a member of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) and former prison chief in Cancún. The crime occurred on the morning of Monday, April 29. In recent hours, a video of the armed attack against Cortés has begun to circulate.

Fermín Cortés Burgos, former director of the Cereso prison in Cancún, identified as a high-ranking official of the state Security Secretariat, was murdered in Chetumal, Quintana Roo.
The attack against Fermín Cortés took place on Chetumal Avenue, in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco. The video shows the SSC member, riding a motorcycle, being chased by a group of armed individuals traveling in a van.
During the chase, a taxi hit Cortés’ motorcycle, causing him to fall to the ground. The hitmen took advantage of this to shoot at their target and then escaped in the same vehicle they were traveling in.

The FGE opened an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the murder of Fermín Cortés, a member of the SSC. It also mentioned that specialized experts gathered the necessary evidence to incorporate into the investigation. Finally, it is specified that the victim lost his life due to a gunshot wound.
