Uber Drivers Protest Against Abuses at Cancun Airport

Around a hundred Uber drivers are protesting against the Cancun International Airport, whose management refuses to comply with a court order. Despite having a definitive injunction allowing them to provide service at the airport, they are not permitted to do so and, on the contrary, are subjected to aggression, according to spokesperson Águeda Esperrilla.

Around seven in the evening, the drivers left the city of Cancun, advanced in a caravan along Colosio Avenue, reached the airport, and continued through each of the four airport terminals, escorted by members of the National Guard.

At the end, they lined up at the entrance and exit of the airport without obstructing free transit.

Águeda Esparrilla stated that on several occasions when they arrived at the airport to drop off passengers, they were blocked by several “pirates,” forcing passengers to switch to their vehicles. Recently, six individuals brutally assaulted an Uber driver.

She mentioned that their initial intention was to close a lane on the road leading to the airport terminals, but if the National Guard prevented their passage, they would block the airport entrances.

The spokesperson recalled that due to the refusal of airport management to allow them to operate in that area, they sought an injunction, which has already been definitively granted. However, obstacles to their free operation at the airport persist.
