CANCÚN, MX.- Two public transport routes will pass over the Nichupte Vehicular Bridge, once it is inaugurated in the coming months, said Rafael Hernández Kotasek, director of the Institute of Mobility of the State of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo).
In an interview, the state official pointed out that this bridge will be used mainly to transfer workers to and from the Hotel Zone every day.
He explained that one route will start from Kabah Avenue, while the second will run through “Las Torres”, the latter located in the north of the city.
The official stressed that the buses that will be used to tour this island will be hybrid, will be 10.5 meters long and will have a capacity for 70 passengers.
He indicated that the buses will travel along Kukulcán Boulevard from kilometer eight to 23, so they will not pass the first stage of the Hotel Zone.
In total, he said, 38 buses will come into operation for these routes, which in the coming weeks will be selected and acquired by the concessionaire companies.
“The idea is that when it is inaugurated, the operations of the service begin, but it must be a coordinated start with them; we provide the characteristics, and, in this case, the one who provides the service in the Hotel Zone is a concessionaire for many years. They are the ones who choose, we as an authority only set the conditions of accessibility, infrastructure, capacity, technology that they must have so that tomorrow they do not put an 18 or 24-meter unit on the bridge,” he added.
Hernández Kotasek stressed that an influx of between 14 and 15 thousand people per day is expected on the bridge, although it is estimated that this figure will increase once the “Mobility of Well-being” (Mobi) project comes into force.
He said that the start of these routes will represent an important step to modernize and make public transport in Cancun more efficient.”The start of these routes will mark the first step towards a more modern, efficient, and sustainable transport model in Cancun, prioritizing the transfer of people and strengthening mobility in one of the most important tourist destinations in the country,” said the official.
