Although rates for transporters at Tulum Airport have been lowered and are more competitive, tourism agencies continue to complain, considering them high compared to other air terminals, which has become a financial challenge for operators.
“The new rates are much better and more competitive. What happened was that the airport terminal management does not see the public price; we are the ones who pay the airport. Therefore, if the cost was excessive, we absorbed the loss, although they are still somewhat high,” said Sergio González Rubiera, president of the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (Amatur).
Additionally, the rates between Tulum Airport and downtown Tulum for tourists are around $50 for standard transport, while luxury transport can reach $90. But if they go to Chetumal, it could be up to $290.
However, tourists with packages contracted with a tour operator generally have transportation included, but those who arrive without an agency take taxis or the ADO service, as reported by 24 Horas Quintana Roo.
As reported by REPORTUR.mx, in August, the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat announced that thanks to the collaboration of Governor Mara Lezama with the administration of Tulum International Airport “Felipe Carrillo Puerto,” the new rates for sporadic access to the federal zone designated for tourist land transportation at the airport were published in the Official Gazette of the Federation. (Tulum Airport: Lower Rates for Land Transportation).
These rates apply to companies that provide pre-contracted services, such as travel agencies and timeshare companies operating in this tourist destination.
