Katsiaryna, known as Mami Rusa, highlights in a TikTok video the pollution affecting the beautiful beaches and Maya ruins of Tulum.

Tulum, a renowned tourist destination in Mexico, is famous for its impressive Maya ruins overlooking the Caribbean Sea and its paradisiacal beaches with white sand and turquoise waters. However, a recent complaint by a Belarusian TikToker, known as Mami Rusa, has brought to light a serious problem: pollution in the region.

In a video posted on her TikTok account, Katsiaryna showed a part of downtown Tulum where, unfortunately, the natural beauty of the area is overshadowed by trash.

“It’s a shame, this part is full of beautiful nature, and people who don’t care are ruining it. I’m filming in the main hotel zone of Tulum, and many tourists are passing by. Look at this. I hope everything can be fixed because it gives a bad image,” the TikToker explained in her video, highlighting an issue that could affect the destination’s reputation.

Mami Rusa’s video generated various reactions on social media. One user commented, “People see a place without an owner and throw their trash there,” to which the TikToker responded, “Poverty has nothing to do with doing this to your own home… in my village, people are also poor, but you can’t find a single piece of trash.” This interaction underscores the need for environmental awareness and responsibility, regardless of the community’s economic situation.

The contrast between Tulum’s tourist appeal and the reality of pollution in some areas highlights a problem that could deter visitors. While the town has experienced economic growth thanks to tourism, it is essential to take measures to preserve its natural beauty.

Mami Rusa’s complaint invites reflection on the importance of caring for and protecting these natural spaces. As Tulum is a destination that attracts thousands of tourists each year, it is crucial that both visitors and residents commit to keeping the environment clean and respecting the region’s beauty.
