Eight days after Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated the still unfinished Section 5 Cancun-Playa del Carmen of the Maya Train, plagued by complaints of environmental damage, this does not work and the route that goes to Campeche and Palenque was cut; In addition, it is expensive to pay for a transfer to get to the Cancun station.
It was on February 29 when AMLO officially opened the Cancun-Puerto Morelos-Playa del Carmen route, however, on Friday, March 8, Latinus verified that this section is not operating.
And it is that, at first, the Maya Train had two departures from Cancun to Palenque, at 7:00 and 9:00 in the morning; now the first one is maintained at 7:00 in the morning, and at 4:30 in the afternoon a second run leaves, but it only reaches Campeche.
The tour is maintained with the stops:
1. Leona Vicario
2. Valladolid
3. Chichen Itza, Izamal
4. Tixcocob, Merida
5. Uman, Maxcanu
6. Hecelchakan
7. Tenabo
8. Campeche.
The first run also reaches Edzná, Carrillo Puerto, Champotón, Escárcega and Palenque.
The departure from Campeche to Cancun is only at 7:00 in the morning; from Campeche, there are two departures; at 7:00 in the morning and at 11:30 in the morning.
When will the Maya Train work again on the routes with problems?
According to information that the ticket office managers gave to Latinus, it will be next week when the route between Cancun and Playa del Carmen works, and it is that the seal of the works inaugurated by AMLO are incomplete and with frequent failures.
They relate that around 9:00 in the morning, on a visit to the Maya Train station in Cancun this Friday, March 8, about 10 people with suitcases were observed who faced several setbacks due to the lack of information.
And until this Sunday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m., the official website for buying and selling tickets for the railroad that crosses the Yucatan Peninsula, still does not have trips available on the section inaugurated 10 days ago by AMLO; that is, the Maya Train still does not work the route the Section 5 Cancun-Playa del Carmen, in addition to cutting departures to Campeche and Palenque.
Tourists wanted to get to Yucatan on the Maya Train, but it doesn’t work
Latinus was able to collect the testimonies of “Lolo” and his wife Amalia Corceti, who traveled on Thursday from Tijuana, Baja California, to travel this Friday on the train to Merida, Yucatan.
Unfortunately, neither at the hotel, nor on the train portal, could they find clear information to buy their tickets.
They indicated that as soon as they arrived at the station with everything and suitcases, hoping to find an available run and although they were able to buy their tickets for the 4:30 pm departure, they dodged the difficulty of leaving the station to the center of the city, because there is no transportation available.
More problems of the Maya Train: expensive transfer, bad internet, and insecurity
However, a taxi charges them about 400 pesos from the center to the station, but once there, there is no way to return to the center, because in addition the internet signal is very bad, which also makes it difficult to ask for some other means of transport.
They also regretted the insecurity that is perceived on arrival at the Cancun International Airport, where they also took a taxi, which first was going to charge them 150 per person in taxi collective mode, but ended up charging them 600 pesos because another passenger did not arrive.
In addition to the high rate, he did not even take them to their destination, but when the driver left the airport roundabout, he left them in the hands of a private vehicle, which caused fear on the couple.
“One does not know if they are going to kidnap him, if they are going to assault you. We decided to take that transport because it seemed safe, but they never tell you that they are going to take you to another vehicle and that should not be allowed,” he said.
And as we mentioned at the beginning, until this Sunday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m., the Maya Train still does not work on the Section 5 Cancun-Playa del Carmen route, because on the official website there were no tickets for sale for that journey.
