As the holiday season draws to a close, Quintana Roo reports an average hotel occupancy rate of 63.7 percent across the board, with Cozumel reporting the lowest occupancy rate at 50.2 percent.
Quintana Roo, like the rest of the country, is in the last week of summer vacation, as the 2025-2026 school year begins on September 1st, when children and adolescents will return to their classrooms.
Prior to the holiday season, the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat (Sedetur) issued its official hotel occupancy report, which, across the Mexican Caribbean, is 63.7 percent from August 16th to 22nd, a figure that remained stable compared to the previous week.
Of these just over 63 percentage points, 70.7 percent went to Costa Mujeres, 68 percent to Cancún, 61.2 percent to the Riviera Maya, 60.4 percent to Isla Mujeres, while Puerto Morelos reported 59.2 percent, Tulum 53.3 percent, and Costa Maya 56.7 percent. The region with the lowest hotel occupancy is Cozumel, at 50.2 percent.
However, the state’s Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, said that this season generated significant numbers for the state, which will be reflected in the economic impact, as the total number of tourists reached 425,744, the majority of whom came from the United States (38.9 percent), followed by Mexican visitors (33.2 percent).
After achieving these figures, he indicated that this joint effort will continue to achieve a higher percentage in 2026, although he noted that the December holidays are still pending before the end of 2025 and the total increase in visitors to Quintana Roo can be considered.
The head of the Cancún Municipal Tourism Secretariat, Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo, recently boasted the increase in international tourist arrivals to Cancún during the first half of the year compared to last year. (Turnover in Cancún: they boast more tourists from Canada and the USA.)
Zulueta Razo indicated at the time that the Canadian market had recovered, going from 9% to 16%; while the United States registered a 2.5% increase in flight frequency to Cancún.
