This Friday, July 19, there was a generalized fall of the Microsoft system, which affected the realization of flights, banking activities, media and companies around the world. Due to this, hundreds of people were stranded in the country’s airports waiting for information about their trips, and some of them were creative, as in the case of the passengers in Cancun.
Who was the creator of Cielito Lindo, the Mexican song that was sung at the Cancun airport due to the Microsoft failure?
A video went viral on social media in which dozens of passengers from the Cancun Airport can be seen, who remained in the facilities waiting for information about the resumption of their flights and who, to cope with the delay, decided to sing ‘Cielito Lindo’, one of the most characteristic songs of Mexican culture.
The images captured show dozens of people waiting to find out if their flights will be rescheduled or permanently canceled; However, what is striking is that among the passengers there is a band of musicians who unexpectedly sing the famous Mexican song.
According to information from various media, the musicians in charge of singing ‘Cielito Lindo’ belonged to the Banda Perla de Michoacán, who, accompanied by trumpets, clarinets and a tuba, decided to liven up the moment of confusion that the passengers were experiencing when they did not know what would happen with their flights.
In the material, you can see dozens of people singing and taking out their cell phones to record this moment, in which, while waiting, a band decided to sing one of the most emblematic pieces of the Mexican musical repertoire.
However, on social networks this action was harshly criticized, as people claim that there was no need to sing ‘Cielito Lindo’, because “it became a song in bad taste.”
Users of the social network X shared their opinions regarding the interpretation of this song at the Cancun Airport, as they assure that ‘Cielito Lindo’ is sung as a kind of national anthem that does not represent Mexicans, since it is chanted “at the slightest inconvenience.”
In addition, memes began to appear after the video was shared in which passengers were shown singing the famous Mexican song.

Some of the comments from users said the following: “Really, ban the song ‘Cielito Lindo’”; “There is nothing more stupid than thinking that singing ‘Cielito Lindo’ magically solves all problems”; “I also get lazy seeing the well-off middle class singing ‘Cielito Lindo’”; “They have such a strong fixation with that song ‘Cielito Lindo’, just let it go,” among others.
Hours after Microsoft’s collapse, CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz confirmed that this global failure was due to an unsuccessful update for Windows and ruled out a cyber attack.
For its part, the Cancun International Airport reported up to the 11:00 cutoff that 24 cancellations were registered – 11 arrivals and 13 departures – from the airlines Viva Aerobús, United Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country, Aeroméxico, Delta Airlines and Frontier.
In addition, it reported a total of 99 delays – 51 arrivals and 48 departures – from the same airlines, as well as Southwest, American Airlines, Air Canada and Thomson.
