Mayor Estefanía Mercado oversaw the assembly of a new access arch to Playa del Carmen. The arch will not only beautify the area but also be equipped with video surveillance cameras, contributing to peace-building strategies in Solidaridad.

Accompanied by Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, Dorys Aké Sierra, the Mayor announced that the project is expected to be completed in approximately 45 days.

“The project’s main objective is to create an iconic structure that serves as a welcoming point and represents the cultural and tourist identity of our city, improving accessibility, urban aesthetics, and road safety in the access area,” Mayor Mercado explained.

Additionally, Mayor Mercado stated that the infrastructure will facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive security and surveillance system to ensure the protection of both residents and visitors.

The access arch, located at the north entrance towards Puerto Morelos-Playa del Carmen, will feature high-tech cameras compatible with the C4 System, speed bumps, speed radar, facial recognition readers, and RFID readers.

The structure will stand 13 meters tall, with a clearance height of 7 meters. The columns will measure 8 by 10 meters at the base, and the road will span 40 meters between the sides. The project, with an investment of over 40 million pesos from the Environmental Sanitation Financing, aims to benefit more than 333,000 inhabitants.
