The riders aim to prevent the enforcement of the regulation among their members.

Motorcyclists in Solidaridad hope to participate in two more working groups to discuss the so-called “Vest Law” with state authorities, in order to prevent the enforcement of the regulation among their members.

Samuel Gómez, leader of motorcyclists in Solidaridad, reported that they are seeking alternatives to prevent the implementation of the reform to the Mobility Law of the State of Quintana Roo, mainly among the various motorcycle clubs, whose representatives have been negotiating with the authorities since last July.

“In the last working group with the Secretary of Government, the director of Imoveqroo, and other officials like the Secretary of Security, the situation is starting to take shape. Right now, negotiations are ongoing with the State Government,” said Samuel Gómez.

So far, no authority has enforced the mobility reform, which requires motorcyclists to wear a fluorescent vest with the license plate number printed on the helmet.

“One of the solutions the state is offering is to certify trusted motorcyclists, who will be given a safe-conduct to be exempt from wearing the vest. This is not a blank check; it will be linked to the Quintana Roo state driver’s license and identified through a QR code,” explained Samuel Gómez.

Following the publication of the reform last July, various motorcyclists filed indirect amparo lawsuits against the implementation of the legal norm.

However, few complainants have obtained provisional and definitive suspensions against the enforcement of the law.

With the onset of the Federal Judiciary’s work stoppage, the amparo lawsuits have been shelved, and it is unknown when these matters will be resolved.

Samuel Gómez said they are waiting to see what will happen in the coming months, especially since the traffic regulations of the municipalities have not yet been reformed.
