The three states that make up the Yucatán Peninsula will be affected by several meteorological systems that will bring rain, heat, and strong winds. Here’s what the weather will be like over the weekend in the region, specifically in Mérida and Cancún.

According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the third heatwave of the year will continue on Friday, affecting several states with extreme temperatures. The Yucatán Peninsula won’t be an exception.

However, on this day, the first tropical wave will slowly advance over the southeastern part of Mexico. Associated with a low-pressure area with the possibility of cyclonic development, it may bring rain.

Specifically for the Yucatán Peninsula on Friday, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.

The morning will be warm, but during the afternoon, it will become very hot to extremely hot, reaching maximum temperatures of 40 to 45°C (104 to 113°F) in Yucatán and Quintana Roo, and even exceeding 45°C (113°F) in Campeche.

Finally, winds from the east and northeast are forecasted at 10 to 25 km/h with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h in all three states of the Yucatán Peninsula.

    • Temperatures: Extreme temperatures persist, with maximum temperatures above 45°C in Campeche and 40 to 45°C in Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
