Job opportunities in Cancun drop by 70% after the end of the holidays.

At the end of the summer vacation period, job openings in Cancún have dropped by up to 70 percent, primarily in the hotel sector, one of the region’s economic pillars.

Ricardo Paredes, organizer of the Student Federation Foundation Job Fair in Benito Juárez, explained that this decline is due to the start of the low season, when tourist occupancy and, consequently, hiring historically decline.

“When inviting recruiters to participate in job fairs, the most common response is that there are no vacancies available or budget for new hires,” Paredes explained.

According to the organizer, employers have indicated that hiring could resume in the second half of October, when a surge in tourist arrivals is expected.

Although some job openings are still available, they are in sectors other than the hotel industry, which limits their appeal to those seeking employment in the tourism industry.

Positions such as waiters, chambermaids, bellboys, and stewards, essential to hotel operations, are among the most affected by this contraction in the labor supply, representing an economic challenge for hundreds of workers in Cancún.
