Jerusalem. Israel lifted its travel ban on Wednesday to dozens of European and African countries, including Italy and Germany, despite the country’s rate of coronavirus infections continuing to rise.

On the other hand, the cabinet team in charge of responding to Covid-19 decided to include Mexico on the red list, adding it to a travel ban that includes the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

Israel largely closed its borders for travel following the appearance of the omicron variant last month, but daily infections have doubled in the past week, despite a successful vaccination campaign.

Israel has recorded at least 8,243 deaths from coronavirus since the start of the pandemic nearly two years ago.
