According to data from Viajala, searches and the best airfare to the Mexican Caribbean were led by Viva Aerobus, ahead of Avianca and Copa. This was reported to REPORTUR.co by Felipe Alarcón, Commercial Director of the metasearch platform.
“Among the travel searches conducted on Viajala from Colombia’s main airports to the Mexican Caribbean, the Mexican airline Viva Aerobus was the carrier that appeared most frequently among the best results and also recorded the lowest average fare for travel between May and July of this year: 1,058,413 Colombian pesos (about US$330) for a round-trip flight to the region,” Alarcón explained.
He also indicated that Viva Aerobus was followed by Avianca, with an average round-trip fare of 1,409,148 Colombian pesos (about US$440) for the same travel period, and Copa, with an average round-trip fare of 1,487,918 Colombian pesos (about US$468).
Paola Castaño, Sales Manager for Copa’s Andean Region, recently told REPORTUR.co that, according to the airline’s operations, Colombian travelers have increasingly been replacing Cancún with new Caribbean experiences, particularly in the Dominican Republic, driven by strong promotional efforts. She also highlighted destinations such as Aruba, Curaçao, and The Bahamas, which, while not growing at the same pace, have shown significant progress.
“We have seen increased demand for destinations such as the Dominican Republic—not only Punta Cana, although it remains the destination with the greatest growth, but also Puerto Plata and Santiago de los Caballeros. We recently resumed service to Santiago de los Caballeros and Puerto Plata. This is a highly important market for Colombian travelers and, naturally, traffic to the Dominican Republic combines Santo Domingo with beach destinations, offering not only a beach vacation but also the possibility of combining it with a city destination,” Castaño said to REPORTUR.co.
