Despite still being days away from hitting Mexican land, families have already gone out to make panic purchases and are selling out paper and wood.

It was reported on Sunday that Hurricane Beryl has reached Category 4 status and is heading towards the Yucatan Peninsula, prompting residents of Cancun, Quintana Roo, to start making panic buys, exhausting paper and wood supplies.

This meteorological phenomenon, expected to hit Mexican shores by next Friday, has led inhabitants of the region to prepare for the imminent threat.

Social media has been flooded with images and videos of supermarkets and convenience stores overflowing with crowds waiting in lines at cash registers, and empty shelves of essential products.

The authorities in Quintana Roo issued a Blue Alert due to the proximity of the hurricane, which is expected to hit the coast as Category 1 by next Friday.

For example, images confirmed long lines at cash registers and empty corridors in stores like Home Depot, where people are buying large boards and woods to protect their homes.

Additionally, convenience stores in Cancun have reported empty shelves in the sections of canned goods and bottled water.
