During an operation to execute a court order for the seizure and return of a property to its owner, state police located 15 wild animals near the property. The animals were found in poor hygienic and nutritional conditions.
This operation, carried out with the support of the Federal Attorney General’s Office for Environmental Protection and the Quintana Roo Ministry of the Environment, took place on a 60-hectare property called “Balam Há,” located in Playa del Carmen.
While conducting the restitution process, approximately 800 meters away, they located cages containing the wild animals.
Among the animals found were five jaguars, four black jaguars, two macaws, a puma, a howler monkey, a magpie, and a king condor. They had no food or drinking water and were confined in very small spaces under unsanitary conditions.
After completing the corresponding procedures, the animals were placed under the care of the environmental authorities, while the Attorney General’s Office conducts investigations to find the person or persons responsible for keeping the animals in poor conditions.
