Mahahual, Quintana Roo. – The Icon of the Seas cruise ship, the world’s largest floating hotel from Royal Caribbean, arrived on Tuesday to the shores of Mahahual, located south of Quintana Roo, with around 10 thousand people on board.
At the reception of this floating skyscraper, the governor Mara Lezama was present, who commented that this cruise ship arrived at the Quintana Roo coasts with 7,600 passengers and a crew of 2,350 people, which adds up to almost 10 thousand visitors.
She explained that the measurements of this ocean liner are 365 meters long and its weight of 250 thousand tons, which makes it the largest cruise ship that has arrived at the docks of Quintana Roo.
The state leader recalled that the ports of Cozumel and Mahahual received 217 cruises in January, which reaffirmed the tourism leadership of the entity in this area, which anticipates that this 2024 will be an excellent year for this type of tourism that seeks and enjoys the natural wealth, historical and cultural attractions, the same that Quintana Roo offers in its 12 destinations.
Last year, the entity registered more than five million cruise passengers who arrived in around 1,500 ships, both at the docks of Cozumel and Mahahual, in the north and south of the state.
She pointed out that this important recovery of nautical tourism of cruises also represents economic growth, both in spillage and in the generation of jobs for people.
