Cancún celebrates its 55th anniversary with the “L’etape Cancún By Tour de France” cycling race; more than a thousand people participate.

In Cancún, as part of its 55th anniversary, the international event L’etape Cancún By Tour de France was held on the Tajamar boardwalk, with the aim of promoting tourism through sports for the well-being of the population.

This event arrived in Mexico in 2016 and has expanded with additional stages across the country. This time, it featured the participation of 1,035 cyclists, 228 women and 807 men, who covered two short routes of 60 kilometers and a long route of 115 kilometers.

Governor Mara Lezama gave the starting signal, accompanied by Verónica Lezama Espinosa, the honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF (DIF of Mexico). She welcomed the riders from Germany, Argentina, Canada, Cuba, Italy, the United States, and Mexico.

“Thank you, cyclists, for being an inspiration to more athletes. Today we demonstrate that Quintana Roo is a great place for sports tourism,” said the Governor from the starting line, accompanied by Jacobo Adrián Arzate Hop, president of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission, and Alejandro Luna López, Sports Director in Benito Juárez.

The participating cyclists came from Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Coahuila, Durango, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatán, Zacatecas, and Quintana Roo.

In addition, 395 riders participated from Quintana Roo, including 79 women and 316 men.
