According to the monthly report of Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur), between January and August 2019 the terminal mobilized 17.7 million passengers, while this year it exceeds that figure by 13.7%; In addition to being currently the largest point of entry for international tourism in the entire country, even above the Mexico City airport.
In the reference period, the terminal transferred 13.4 million international passengers, against 11.7 million in 2019, that is, a growth of 14.3% compared to air traffic levels prior to the start of the pandemic.
Double-digit growth is also present in domestic passenger traffic, because while in 2019 the terminal mobilized 6 million travelers, for this year the figure was 6.7 million, that is, 12.5% above what was registered before the health crisis.
The Cozumel International Airport also reports double-digit growth, since according to Asur, between January and August of this year the terminal handled 464,022 passengers, which represents a growth of 12.1% compared to the 413,914 in 2019.
Only in international passengers, the island’s terminal has grown 25.7%, going from 277,507 passengers in 2019 to 348,794 this year.
