The National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp) has trained 30 dive guides in Playa del Carmen to ensure safe interactions with the bull shark, a species that, although feared, deserves to be admired.

Candy López, a dive instructor in the region, emphasized the importance of these courses, which provide guides with the necessary resources and tools for a safe descent and proper underwater control.

“The most important thing is to protect the bull shark,” commented López, adding that these trainings not only professionalize the sector but also coordinate efforts with permit holders to offer greater safety to those new to this type of diving.

This is the second consecutive year that Conanp has implemented this certification; last year, 25 guides were trained.

The bull shark interaction season will begin in November, and this preparation is expected to improve the experience for both divers and the animals.
