A staggering 886 vehicles were stolen in Quintana Roo over the first four months of this year, accounting for a massive 95.06% of all vehicle thefts reported on the Yucatán Peninsula. The data, released by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, shows that Yucatán and Campeche reported significantly fewer cases, with 29 and 17 incidents respectively.

The figures reveal that Quintana Roo has been plagued by a wave of vehicle thefts, with 254 cases reported in January, followed by 200 in February, 221 in March, and 211 in April. Motorcycle thefts dominated the list, with 615 stolen vehicles out of the total 886. Of these, 25 were stolen using violence, while the remainder were taken without incident.

The most commonly stolen car models in Quintana Roo during this period included the Nissan Tsuru, Nissan Versa, and Chevrolet Aveo.

In contrast, Yucatán reported a relatively low number of vehicle thefts, with 29 cases between January and April. Of these, eight were cars and 21 were motorcycles, all stolen without violence.

Campeche also saw 17 vehicle thefts during the same period, including four car thefts and 13 motorcycle thefts. In this state, two car thefts involved violence, while one occurred without incident. Among the motorcycle thefts, 11 were taken without violence, and two with violence.

The data shows a stark contrast between the three states in terms of vehicle theft rates. Quintana Roo accounts for an overwhelming majority of cases, followed by Yucatán and then Campeche. The total number of vehicle thefts reported on the peninsula stands at 932, with motorcycles making up approximately 69% of all stolen vehicles.

The alarming trend has prompted authorities to take notice, with efforts underway to crack down on vehicle theft rings and bring perpetrators to justice.
