The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), in coordination with the National Guard and the Mexican Navy, rescued 20 women victims of human trafficking for the purpose of forced prostitution during a raid on a bar located on 4th North Street, between 125th West Avenue and 20th Street in Playa del Carmen.
According to authorities, 17 of the women are Mexican, two are Cuban, and one is Venezuelan. They stated that they had been lured out of economic necessity.
The operation resulted from an investigation by the investigative police, who discovered that men frequented the establishment, left with women, and the women later returned to the bar.
Initial investigations reveal that the victims were engaged in soliciting clients, charging 200 pesos per drink, of which they only received half. They also offered sexual services with rates ranging from 800 to 1,500 pesos per hour, payments made directly at the register, with the women keeping only 50 percent of the total.
During the operation, cell phones, a laptop computer, packages of condoms, notebooks with notes, and cash were seized.
After the search, the property was secured and placed under the custody of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), while the women and the evidence were turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the preparation of the corresponding case file.
