In a significant move to support education in Tulum, Municipal President Diego Castañón has awarded 1,000 educational scholarships as part of the municipality’s scholarship program. The initiative saw a substantial budget increase of 52%, allowing for an expansion of beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, President Castañón emphasized that his administration is focused on delivering tangible results and providing opportunities for Tulum’s youth to pursue their education without financial constraints. “We are here today to showcase what we have achieved so far, rather than talking about potential outcomes,” he stated. “No girl or boy in Tulum should be forced to drop out of school due to lack of resources, and it is our duty as a government to provide the necessary support.”
The Director of Education, Nilvi Margarita Lizama, highlighted the significant increase in scholarships this year, from 605 to 1,000 students. The budget for the program has more than doubled, rising from 3.1 million pesos to 6.56 million pesos.
Moreover, the increased funding will benefit all recipients, as the amount of support allocated to each student has also been boosted. This move aims to provide greater assistance to Tulum’s students, allowing them to focus on their studies rather than financial burdens.
Beneficiaries of this program can expect three payments throughout the year, and the call for applications will reopen in September to allow more students to participate in this educational initiative.
