A shocking incident has come to light involving a municipal inspector who allegedly extorted 25,000 pesos from construction workers in the city. According to reports, Inspector Cristian Rodríguez demanded the hefty sum as payment for a permit, claiming it was necessary for them to continue working on a property.
The affected parties claim that when they failed to provide the requested amount, the project was closed. This incident highlights the growing concern over corruption and abuse of power within municipal authorities in Mexico.
The workers involved in the alleged extortion case reported that Inspector Rodríguez temporarily left the site after being questioned about construction permits. Upon his return, he demanded 25,000 pesos for a supposed permit to allow them to continue working for two or three days. The workers were shocked by this request, claiming they had already obtained all necessary permits and were simply making minor adjustments to the property.
The situation escalated when Inspector Rodríguez allegedly threatened the workers with arrest if they did not suspend their activities. Several of the workers abandoned the site fearing arrest. This incident has raised questions about the integrity of municipal inspectors in Mexico.
The affected workers have called for a thorough investigation into this alleged case of extortion and demanded that the appropriate sanctions be applied to those involved. They also expressed concerns over corruption within the Tulum City Council’s General Directorate of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development.
