A Volaris airline plane experienced a mechanical issue on Thursday afternoon, forcing the temporary closure of Tulum International Airport.
The incident occurred when Volaris Flight 1400, arriving from Guadalajara, suffered damage to its front landing gear as it touched down at the airport. Despite the malfunction, there were no major incidents or emergencies among passengers, who had to disembark the plane on the runway and board a bus to reach the terminal building.
The Volaris plane was subsequently towed off the runway, a process that took several hours to complete, allowing Tulum Airport to reopen for operations.
Fortunately, neither passengers nor crew members were injured in the incident. However, an official explanation from the airport management or Volaris has yet to be provided.
The Guadalajara-Tulum route was launched by Volaris in December 2024, and since its inception, the airline has transported nearly 80 million customers to and from Guadalajara, with routes connecting it to domestic and international destinations.
