The month of November ranks with the most missing people in Quintana Roo

The probability of finding a person safe and sound is greatly reduced after 36 hours of not locating them.

Cancun, Quintana Roo- During November, more than 38 people were reported missing in Quintana Roo, most of them women and minors, of which only 14 managed to return to their homes.

November reached the record for the highest number of disappearances in 2020 in the state, more than triple the monthly average this year, which was 12.

According to information provided by the FGE through its Transparency unit, 8 out of 10 disappearances in Quintana Roo occur in the north of the state, and in 80% of the cases, the person reported as missing was a young woman. 16 to 25 years of age.

Throughout the year, 167 disappearances have been registered. In Benito Juárez 78 are reported, of which 36 people have been located: 24 women and 11 men, as well as a lifeless female.

In Solidaridad 56 were reported, of which 16 women and 6 men were found safe and sound. In Cozumel, 4 people have been located, while in Chetumal and Tulum there have been 3 and 2, respectively.

Chances of finding a missing person

In 90% of the occasions on which people were located, they had been missing for less than 36 hours. After that time, the probability of finding them is reduced to 10%, according to data from the Prosecutor’s Office.

And if the person who disappeared is a woman, and her whereabouts have not been known for more than 72 hours, the percentage of finding them is reduced to less than 2%, said the dependency.

Amber Alert and Alba Protocol

The Prosecutor’s Office explained that, as of 2018, if the person who disappeared is a minor, the Amber Alert is activated immediately.

In the event that you are a woman, regardless of age, the Alba Protocol applies, even if only 24 hours have passed.
