A Taxi Driver was arrested for keeping and selling tourists’ luggage in Playa del Carmen.
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Quintana Roo, April 25, 2026 – A taxi driver was arrested by Municipal Police officers after being accused of allegedly keeping passengers’ luggage and attempting to sell some of the items.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. when a family boarded the taxi and, upon exiting, forgot their suitcases in the trunk. According to the report, the driver did not return to retrieve them.
Noticing the situation, the victims activated the GPS tracking on electronic devices inside the luggage, which allowed the taxi to be located in real time
The signal led them to the intersection of Benito Juárez and 90th Avenues in the Ejido neighborhood, where they located the taxi, number 2887, and its driver, who was allegedly trying to sell the tourists’ tablets and other devices at an electronics repair shop.
In response to these events, the family requested assistance from the Municipal Police, whose officers proceeded to arrest the driver at the victims’ request.
The taxi driver was detained and turned over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and to determine responsibility.
