The reopening of Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resorts marks the return of one of the most iconic resorts on the mainland of Isla Mujeres, representing a direct catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and strengthened investor confidence in Quintana Roo, at a time when the destination is maintaining hotel occupancy rates above 85% and experiencing rising tourist demand.

During the official ceremony marking the resort’s relaunch, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa emphasized that this project reaffirms the dynamism of the Mexican Caribbean and its capacity to attract investment. “Tourists want to vacation in the Vacation Capital of the World,” she stated, highlighting the destination’s positive performance during the past holiday season.

The governor also announced progress on key infrastructure to support this growth, such as the modernization of the Cancún-Isla Blanca highway. “We’re going to start with two kilometers, then another two, and keep moving forward because this destination deserves to continue growing and have a tourist corridor commensurate with the investment you are making,” she emphasized.

The resort reopens with 424 completely redesigned rooms under a contemporary concept, in addition to a new building with its own club and private beach, as well as a revamped offering of premium experiences, gastronomy, and entertainment.

Gabriel Felip, President of Hyatt for Latin America and the Caribbean, emphasized the company’s commitment to the region: “Cutting the inaugural ribbon is the best way to renew our commitment to the well-being of people, the prosperity of the destination, and the development of Quintana Roo’s potential.” He highlighted that Hyatt manages 32 resorts in the region, which together comprise more than 13,000 rooms and generate direct employment for more than 19,000 families.

For her part, Graciela Hank González, owner of Grupo Hermes Tourism Division, recalled her family’s role in establishing Playa Mujeres as a high-end destination. “With this renovation, it is positioning itself in Mexico and around the world, consolidating Quintana Roo’s tourism offerings for increasingly discerning guests,” she stated.

He added that the development maintains a comprehensive approach that goes beyond hotel operations, directly benefiting more than 1,400 families while boosting tourism and promoting the protection of the natural environment.

The reopening of Secrets Playa Mujeres comes amidst the destination’s sustained expansion, where collaboration between the public and private sectors is key to maintaining international competitiveness.

The event included a tour of the renovated facilities, a drone show, and interaction with the resort’s team, showcasing not only the physical renovation of the complex but also the reactivation of a value chain that directly impacts the local economy.
