Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The Mayor of Playa del Carmen is moving forward with the rehabilitation of the city’s center including areas in and around Fifth Avenue and Parque Fundadores.

In a press release, the city council of Solidaridad said that the rehabilitation of the area will revitalize the image with new paving stones, improved lighting, level correction, absorption wells, modernization of urban benches, and better access to beach entrances.

It will also include the removal of non-functioning ATMs, public telephone booths, and invasive commercial structures.

City Council reports that more trees will be planted to provide additional shade and that space around Iglesia del Carmen and the Maya Portal at Parque Fundadores will become a large amphitheater.

The limits of the park will be visually and physically expanded, integrating the perpendicular streets and the promenade. The park will improve the fluidity between the pier and Juárez Avenue through the integration of ramps, achieving an inclusive city with universal accessibility.
