Economic Impact

The massive arrival of cruise ships highlights the attractiveness of these destinations for the global tourism industry, bringing a significant flow of international tourists. This influx benefits not only the ports but also local commerce, gastronomy, and tour operators, who capitalize on this high season.

Maintaining Quality and Sustainability

With the Mexican Caribbean established as a leader in maritime tourism, local authorities continue to work to maintain the quality and sustainability standards that make Cozumel and Mahahual must-visit destinations on international cruise routes.

In the first few weeks of December, Cozumel broke a record with 35 cruise ships arriving on the island during the first eleven days, as reported by Vagner Elbiorn, director of the Quintana Roo Port Administration (APIQROO). This milestone further consolidates Cozumel’s status as one of the world’s premier maritime tourist destinations.
