Security in Quintana Roo and its main tourist destinations will be reinforced through updated preventative protocols. Following the recent violence in Teotihuacan, the State Government and the private sector are coordinating efforts to secure archaeological sites and ensure the safety of national and international visitors who choose the Mexican Caribbean.
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa described the events in central Mexico as an isolated incident; however, she emphasized that it necessitates a thorough review of prevention strategies. Through the Security Council, specific measures have been defined to increase the presence of law enforcement in high-traffic public spaces.
“What happened is very regrettable and compels us to strengthen strategies to prevent similar situations from recurring,” the governor stated. These actions include ongoing coordination with the National Guard, the Army (Sedena), and the Navy, focusing on critical points such as airports, highways, and access to historical monuments.
In anticipation of upcoming world-class events that will increase travel within the state, technological tools such as the following will be implemented:
State-of-the-art security checkpoints and video surveillance cameras.
Specialized training for emergency response.
Strict access protocols at concert and convention venues.
For her part, the Secretary of Government, Cristina Torres, emphasized that incidents involving tourists are minimal in relation to the volume of visitors, reaffirming that the state maintains a solid level of peace for the holiday period.
Octavio de la Torre Stéffano, president of Concanaco Servytur, urged everyone to remain vigilant. He noted that the private sector is already reviewing its internal protocols, but reiterated that public safety is a constitutional obligation that must be guaranteed to maintain the destination’s competitiveness in the global market.
