Quintana Roo, in red light for its third wave of COVID-19

The state government has warned of the increase in the number of cases and hospitalizations.

The state of Quintana Roo, the only state in the country that this week is at an epidemiological orange traffic light and that until Monday had 1,111 active cases, registers a third wave of COVID-19, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, said this Wednesday at a press conference that Quintana Roo is “a federative entity in which the epidemic is on the rise and is going at considerable speed.”

The federal official called on the population, particularly that of the Benito Juárez municipality, where Cancún is located, to reduce mobility so that contagions decrease.

On Tuesday, José Luis Alomía, general director of Epidemiology, referred to the situation in that state as a third wave: “We have three entities at the moment that do not have this downward behavior, which have shown an increase in recent weeks and one in a special way, yes, with a continuous upward trend that practically already represents a third epidemic period or a third wave, if we want to call it that way, for the purposes of Quintana Roo ”.

Until this Wednesday, the state has 26 thousand 405 confirmed cases, as well as two thousand 757 deaths, according to the state Health Secretariat.

The governor, Carlos Manuel Joaquín González, has warned the population of this increase in cases. “Quintana Roo, we have a significant upturn in cases, we need to make an effort in joint responsibility, society and government to lower the curve, save lives and that the economic reactivation continues,” he wrote on Monday on his Twitter account.

On the same Monday he also wrote on that social network: “We have an increase in the hospitalization curve, this is worrying. Just this weekend we had 55 intubated people and the trend is growing ”.
