Quintana Roo and Yucatan will unify their sanitary protocols and will equate them with those established by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) to promote the peninsula as a single destination.

The sanitary criteria will be homologated establishing the commitment to combine actions for the strengthening of both certificates, having as main opportunities the technological exchange, the joint development of training and a constant evaluation for the benefit of the tourist service providers, explained Marisol Vanegas Pérez, secretary of Tourism in Quintana Roo.

“This approval of sanitary certification will benefit, in addition to attracting tourists, to the region as they are considered safe destinations for the traveler, to the providers of tourist services that by their nature require operating in both states, as they will have the recognition of tourist health certificates of Quintana Roo and Yucatan, just by obtaining one of the certifications that these entities offer ”, he assured.

To formalize these agreements, both destinations will sign a four-axis collaboration agreement: development and integration of tourism products based on the natural and cultural wealth of each entity; generate joint efforts for tourism promotion; promote the development and technological exchange that allow updating the certificates of good tourist sanitary practices, being at the forefront with the changes in protocols established by the Ministry of Health, and promoting training, certification and professionalization programs of the value chain.

This joint work began at the International Tourism Fair of Spain last year; to date, different actions have been carried out in favor of these destinations, but the current situation has led Quintana Roo and Yucatan to strengthen this alliance on issues of international health security, added Vanegas Pérez.

Michelle Fridman, Secretary of Tourism Promotion of Yucatan, commented that the certifications of both states are of great importance for travelers, given that tourists do not plan a trip taking into account the geopolitical divisions between them, but the region, “that is why it was created the concept of the Yucatan Peninsula, so that without removing the individuality of each state we can generate promotion strategies, connectivity, training and, of course, approved health certifications ”.

Marisol Vanegas reported that in addition to complementing health protocols with Yucatan, “we share the international recognition of the WTTC, in order to increase the safety and confidence of the traveler, as well as the certainty of tourism companies that already have the protocol of health protection and prevention. We are consolidating the region as a favorite destination worldwide ”.

Last week members of the National Conference of Governors held a meeting, in which they raised the revival of tourism as a central theme for entities that depend mainly on this activity.

“This was raised as a central issue, since there are states in the Republic that 90% of employment depends on tourism such as Quintana Roo, Baja California Sur
